How it all began...
The story of Osa Major began in 2006 with an unexpected twist of fate. When a hotel accidentally double-booked their room, we found ourselves searching for a last-minute alternative—and landed, quite by chance, in the heart of rural Mallorca.

Roland and Brenda had always known the island from the sea. As passionate sailors, they had explored its coastline, fallen in love with the hidden coves, and cherished its endless beaches. But inland Mallorca was a mystery to them—one they would soon discover held a different kind of magic.
For Brenda, who had spent the first twelve years of her life in Africa, the idea of returning to a life filled with sunshine had always been a dream. Suddenly, that dream felt possible. Mallorca offered the promise of a slower, simpler life—barefoot in the countryside, surrounded by nature, in a timeworn finca.
And so, the search began. Eventually, at the end of a dusty road, they found it: a crumbling ruin perched on a hillside, with sweeping views and a timeless energy. Sheep grazed among the stones, and an owl made its home in what would later become the Tower Room. It was beautiful and wild—but came with warnings. There was no road to the property, and previous construction had been halted due to archaeological remains. Frustrated by delays, the former owner had given up. But for this family, the land had already worked its charm. They bought it.
The journey to bring Osa Major to life was far from easy. It took three years just to obtain the necessary permits. Yet through every obstacle, they returned to the land with a picnic basket and open hearts—dreaming, soaking in the views, and reconnecting with the vision. In 2011, that dream finally began to take shape.
Still living in Amsterdam, they began shaping Osa Major into a second home, giving new life to old stones and carving out magical corners of the finca. With names like Stairway to Heaven (a terrace perfect for stargazing), The Beach (the shallow end of the pool designed for ultimate relaxation), and Paradise Showers (secluded outdoor showers in the tipi glamping area), each space was created with love and intention.
By 2014, they made Mallorca their permanent home. With full-time care and supervision, Osa Major blossomed into a home that honored its surroundings—powered entirely by the sun and nourished by the land. The vegetable garden, lovingly named Osa Verde, grew to become the heart of their food philosophy, celebrating farm-to-table living in its purest form.
From the beginning, there was a vision to host retreats—a dream fulfilled with the creation of a stunning hilltop yoga shala overlooking the valley. Teachers from around the world soon found their way to Osa Major, drawn to its peaceful energy and the space it offered for meaningful connection and personal transformation.
Year after year, the family has moved closer to their dream of complete self-sufficiency. Beehives hum with life. Land has been cleared for a future vineyard. Osa Verde continues to flourish with every season. Solar panels collect the abundant energy of the sun, and batteries in the sala machina store what’s left for the darker months.
Osa Major is more than a home—it’s a living, evolving project. A place shaped by vision, patience, and a deep respect for nature. Its story is a reminder that when you stay curious and follow your heart, the path unfolds in the most unexpected and beautiful ways.
